An email from Linda & Mike, April 2008

Edited slightly for web publication by John Maher

Success, after lots of paperwork, stress and panic we have finally got the
visas for BEKKER (SENIOR PROJECT WORKER) and MR JOSEPHAT (HEADTEACHER
INSPIRATIONS SCHOOL) - they will arrive in England on May 3rd until 4th
June, we are having a "get together" so all sponsors have the chance to
meet with them. This will be on Saturday 17th May starting 7.00 pm and
until 10pm (drop in anytime), at Ashton Park School, Blackmoors Lane,
Ashton, Bristol. We will have a small bar and a raffle, also our African
crafts etc., will be on sale. We are not selling tickets but a small donation
would be gratefully received on the night that will help fund other teachers
visits next year.

I will also have an "open day" at my house on Saturday 31st May where you
can drop by from 1pm until 8pm and meet with them. Again we will have a small
bar, coffee, tea cakes snacks etc and small raffle, & sell our crafts again
all this will raise funds for future visits.
Our address is
			102 Whitecross Avenue
			Whitchurch Bristol
			Tel: 01275 834883 or 07803 052039
We are just off the main A37 Wells Road out of Bristol.

Good news - Mr Josephat is marrying his girlfriend of 7 years -
Consolatta - in December; owing to financial problems & their teacher
training they have not been able to afford this before . We are helping with the
wedding and hope to buy a small piece of land (approx. £500), and build a small
house (approx £3000). The reason for this is that if he worked at a government
school he would get a higher wage than we can pay him & also get a housing allowance,
and would have a pension. So we have offered him this help for housing in lieu of
what he is losing over the long term.

If anyone feels they would also like to contribute towards this then please let me
know. Mr Josephat has been a dedicated worker of ours for 9 years, he was the teacher
we found all those years ago and now he really deserves this support and to be happy
with his future wife.

{Due to family problems Linda returned from Kenya 2 weeks early. If you phone or email
you may have to wait for a reply, you can always 'phone Bobby on 01761 490627 since
she is helping to organise the teachers' visit}

If anyone has any "special" thing to offer for their visit then let us know. They have
a commitment to spend a few days at Ashton Park School, but they will have free time
to enjoy as much of English culture that we can offer. I am hoping to get them a
helicopter ride over Bristol. We may have a night out ten pin bowling etc etc . If
anyone can get any free tickets to Theatre or SS Great Britain or anything you think
they would like then please drop them in the post to me. We are trying to arrange their
diary so as soon as possible would be great. Thanks!"

Mike is still in Kenya "holding the fort" there and sorting out everything for their
visit and they will travel back with him, also Paul Miller from Ashton Park School
arrives in Kenya for 6 days next week as part of the teachers exchange programme,
so we decided that Mike was needed to ensure everything runs smoothly.

Thank you for all your support and I hope many of you will be able to come along and
meet with them. If anyone has any football shirts, mens, youths or childrens i.e. England,
Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Bristol City, Bristol Rovers, etc., please bring them
along as the other workers in Kenya are football mad and we are collecting these to
take over.
