Inspirations School, Shika Adabu

“Shika Adabu” village means “Good Discipline” or “Good Behaviour” and the village is located three miles from Mombasa.

The village is similar to Timbwani, where many children were unable to go to school because their parents have no money.

When the land was purchased In 2002 Linda and Mike were made honorary elders, their names are “Nuru” (LIGHT) and “Hekima” (WISDOM).

Another borehole dug in a nearby village with pump and tank to provide fresh water to families

Land was purchased and two classrooms built. Together with a toilet block, these were opened in April 2003.

By July 2005 a playground, goat pens and three more classrooms were added. Also in 2005, a borehole was sunk to provide fresh water complete with pump room, generator and pump - and another toilet block was started.

At Inspirations, 150 children enjoy free nursery and primary education, textbooks, storybooks and uniforms.

Many children arrive at school hungry, which means that they cant concentrate and fall asleep, so we provide porridge every day.

Malaria kills a child every 30 seconds in Africa, so we have provided all our children with mosquito nets; goats and chickens have been given to many families, helping them to become self-sufficient.

Thus Maji Safi Projects try to look after the welfare of the whole child by providing education, uniform, etc, food and nets for their well-being.

We are “grass roots” and “hand-on”, which ensures that all sponsors and donors can involved as much as they want. We provide exactly what is needed and requested by the Kenyan villagers.
